API

Visit’s API is fully documented and testable right in your browser, so your team can try real requests before writing a line of production code.

Access is controlled with scoped API keys, and your integration partners can set up and manage everything through the API itself, without needing a login to your account.

It runs both ways. You can capture registrations in another tool and push them straight into Visit, or upload ID photos and documents against a registration for accredited and regulated events.

The Visit API is the link between Visit and the third-party applications you already run. It uses standard REST requests and returns data in JSON, which means any modern system can read it. You decide what you want to read, create, update or delete: visitors, exhibitors, leads, digital content and more.

Anything with an API. Visit clients commonly connect CRM and marketing automation platforms, analytics tools, exhibitor and digital directories, networking and matchmaking tools, survey platforms, and accommodation partners. Existing integrations include Salesforce, Pardot, Google Analytics, PayPal, Worldpay, Elavon, Slido, InGo, HotelMap, onPeak, Explori and ExpoPlatform, among others.

A webhook is a notification Visit sends to your system the moment something changes, so nothing has to keep checking for updates.

Without one, your connected system has to poll, which means asking Visit on a schedule whether anything is new. Every few minutes, every hour, every night. Most of the time the answer is no, and in between checks your data sits out of date. With a webhook, Visit tells your system as soon as the change happens, and your system collects it straight away.

Visit sends webhooks across seven areas of your event data:

  • Visitors, when someone registers or updates their details
  • Exhibitors, when a record is added or edited
  • Leads, when one is captured on the show floor
  • Payments, when an order or payment status changes
  • Onsite activity, such as arrivals and scans
  • Session participants, when someone joins or leaves
  • Digital content, when material behind your event app changes

You choose which ones you want. A CRM might only care about visitors. A finance system might only care about payments.

Both directions. As well as pushing your event data out, the API lets you create records inside Visit from an outside source. Clients use this to capture registrations in another tool, a campaign landing page or a partner's channel, and push them straight into Visit as registrations, with no manual import.

The API also handles document upload, so you can attach ID photos or accreditation documents to a registration. This is useful for regulated events where entry depends on verified identity.

Many leading software providers to the events sector already have an out-of-the-box integration with Visit, so you can be up and running in no time, as the API implementation of any Visit event is identical - it's just a case of generating an authentication key for them.

Access runs on API keys, and each key carries its own permissions. You can give an integration read access to visitor data without giving it the ability to delete anything, or restrict it to a single area of your event data. Keys can also be limited to specific IP addresses.

Your integration partners can set up and manage everything, including webhooks, through the API itself, so an external developer never needs a login to your Visit account.

This is one of the more common reasons organizers move to Visit. Platforms built to be your entire event stack tend to keep data inside that stack, and getting it into the tools you actually run becomes a scheduled export, a manual import, or a workaround someone maintains by hand.
